Weather

After the storm of the previous day, the sun was shining and the sky was blue. The temperature hovered around freezing all day.

Conditions

Excellent! With between 3 and 6 inches of fresh snow in 24 hours all runs started the day in excellent conditions, especially the black runs that really benefitted from the soft powder filling in between the bumps.

Overall

A hard days skiing, with lots of blacks, taking advantage of the the excellent snow conditions.

Sue and Chris at the start of the day.

After helping Sue get her stuff to the lockers, Chris and I headed up to the summit area and runs off Pioneer which were already enjoying the early morning sun. Getting there we tried Belmont which skied pretty easy because of the powder, so we decided there would never be a better time to go into Blueslip Bowl. The first turn was a psychological challenge because of the steepness, but the fresh powder made it reasonably comfortable. We both got to the bottom without falling.

The next challenge was the powder in the woods off Jupiter Access. It took rather longer than we expected; Chris fell several times and ended up looking like a snowman and we finished below the lift and had to pole out.

After a break it was back to the Pioneer chair and another trip down Blueslip. Chris decided to take an easier blue route out of the bowl rather than the bumps under the lift. Unfortunately, Lucky Boy was steeper than Pioneer and just as heavily mogulled. Encouraged by our success in Blueslip we ventured into 10th Mountain for the first time. We just managed to stop before a seriously steep extreme slope and skied out through trees in the soft powder.

After lunch, Chris headed off on his own to clock up some vertical off King Consolidated and Silverlode. Meanwhile, I knocked off a couple of blacks off the Thaynes chair and had a third run down Blueslip Bowl. By now, most of the bowl was in the shade and the snow was getting a little crisp.

Sue on Claimjumper

Sue had a good day. She skied up via Ski Team to meet us for coffee at the Snow Hut restaurant and then took a complete run down Claim Jumper. We met up around mid afternoon and skied all the way down to the Resort Center.
